The ultrasound beam can be divided in to two main regions; the near and far fields. Near field distance and the divergence of the ultrasound beam in the far field are determined by transducer element width and ultrasound frequency. We will also briefly discuss side lobes and grating lobes. In the next talk we will use these concepts to manipulate the beam depending on the imaging requirements.
