Dr Leigh Breen & Dr Richard Mackenzie discuss the research undertaken by the late Prof. Kevin Tipton.

Dr Leigh Breen and Dr Richard Mackenzie led a talk that celebrates the distinguished professional life of Professor Kevin D. Tipton, who was taken away from his family and friends on January 9, 2022. A recent publication by Oliver Witard, Arny Ferrando and Stuart Philips (10.1123/ijsnem.2022-0019) outlines the remarkable contribution Professor Tipton made to the scientific field of sport nutrition and exercise metabolism over a career spanning 30 years. His research focused on muscle protein metabolism in the context of exercise and nutrition, well before this topic was popular. The impact of his work is immeasurable with both athletic and clinical implications. Oliver Witard, Arny Ferrando and Stuart Philips ( 10.1123/ijsnem.2022-0019) discuss Kevin’s notable contributions to our understanding of how the ingestion of amino acids stimulate muscle protein synthesis in the  post-exercise recovery period. This talk by Dr Breen is an opportunity to celebrate the life of a great scientist.
Dr Leigh Breen is a leading expert in the field of skeletal muscle metabolism. His group are nationally and internationally renowned for their work into the metabolic and molecular regulation of skeletal muscle plasticity and function in health and disease, as well as specific expertise in the role of dietary protein as a key modulator of skeletal muscle metabolism.
