More heat and scattered storms are in store for the News 5 area through next week. After some scattered storms this evening, we will be quieter tonight with partly cloudy skies. Lows will drop into the mid- to upper-70’s. Sunday will bring a chance for scattered storms by the afternoon, and highs will push back in the low- to mid-90’s. Heat index values will be well over 100° again. Rip current risk will remain high for the weekend thanks to indirect effects from Beryl. The storm weakened over the Yucutan and is now a tropical storm back in the Gulf of Mexico with max winds at 60 mph. Beryl is expected to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. A weakness in an upper-level ridge currently protecting the Northern Gulf Coast will allow Beryl to curve to the northwest. Model guidance continues to suggest the storm will track towards the Texas Gulf Coast. Hurricane watches and storm surge watches have already been issued for that area. Surges of moisture will bring increased rain chances for Tuesday and slightly cooler temperatures, but storms will be more isolated for the back half of the week. Highs will push back into the mid-90’s for next weekend.
