Though most box jellyfish species that are lethal to humans live in the Indo-Pacific region and northern Australia, like the Australian box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) which is considered to be one of the most venomous marine animal, but some species are found in warm coastal waters around the world. Thus, getting to know more about them is significant so that we could take appropriate action if we happen to encounter an incident of jellyfish stung or if you happen to be the victim.

Anyone unfortunate enough to get injected with this poison may experience multiple body pains, the severity of reaction depends upon the type and size of box jellyfish, age, body size, and health condition of the victim, the length of exposure of the body part with the sting, and the body parts stung. It is also worth noting, that a even if a jellyfish is dead, it's not safe to touch, as it can still sting,  because the cell structure of nematocysts is maintained long after death.

If the victim manages to survive, he may only experience symptoms like burning pain, itchiness, nausea, welts and blisters, that may leave a scar on the affected area of the skin, in most severe cases, one critically affected by the venom may experience loss of consciousness and paralysis that may lead to drowning, high blood pressure and cardiac arrest, that mostly leads to death,  in a matter of minutes of being stung.

In an emergency case, first aid should be administered upon the victim while rushing him to the hospital. Jellyfish sting leaves thousands of stingers in the skin, and it continue to release venom to the body if not remove, to prevent this, the affected area shall be poured with hot water or salt water, and use tweezers and gloved hands in pulling off any tentacles still on the skin, never use freshwater, alcohol, and urine,  it will never counteract the venom, in fact it could make the sting more painful and fire more venom to the victim's body.
