Example: Let's say there are 500 retail outlets in a city, and a particular FMCG product is available in 300 of them. The numeric distribution for this product in that city would be (300 / 500) x 100 = 60%.

Weighted Distribution:

Definition: Weighted distribution takes into account the importance or significance of each retail outlet based on factors like sales volume, foot traffic, or other relevant metrics. It assigns a weight to each outlet and calculates distribution based on these weights.

Formula: Weighted Distribution (%) = (Sum of Weights for Outlets Carrying the Product / Total Sum of Weights for All Retail Outlets) x 100

Example: Suppose you have three types of retail outlets in a region: small stores, medium-sized supermarkets, and large hypermarkets. You assign weights of 1, 2, and 3, respectively, to each outlet type based on their importance. If your product is available in 20 small stores, 15 medium-sized supermarkets, and 10 large hypermarkets, the weighted distribution would be calculated as follows:

Weighted Distribution (%) = [(20x1) + (15x2) + (10x3)] / [(20x1) + (15x2) + (10x3)] = (20 + 30 + 30) / (20 + 30 + 30) = 80%
