Here's an overview video showing the steps you'll need to go through to install a recessed light in your basement ceiling, assuming you have exposed joists.

First, you'll want to make sure you take good measurements and align your light exactly where you want it to stay.  Once you get the light positioned well attach the light to the joists with nails or screws (I prefer screws).  Once the recessed pot light is in place you'll move on to the electric.

You can run the electric from another light or connection on the circuit.  You'll need to run the electrical cord into the electrical box housing, use a cord clamp to keep it in place and connect the ground (green), white (neutral) and black (hot/live) wires to the same colored wires in your pot light.  Use wire nuts and electrical tape to secure the wires if your electrical box housing doesn't have some sort of connector.

In this video I also show you how to strip and measure conduit for running power between lights.  I also need to drill a hole through one of my joists to get the power from one recessed light to another.
