Poland stun Brazil with straight sets win. Maringá, Brazil, May 30, 2014 - Poland defeated Brazil 3-0 (26-24, 28-26 and 25-21) on Friday in their second FIVB World League clash of the week. It was the first win for the Europeans in this year's tournament, and a true turnaround of form, after the Brazilians defeated them 3-0 yesterday.
The first set was very close. Brazil's superior blocking put them 8-6 ahead. But the Poles got back on track with some good counter attacks, and eventually, after some thrilling exchanges, the Europeans took the set 26-24.
The second set started was also tight. Poland went to the first technical timeout three points ahead (8-5), and kept the lead with some good attacks (14-10). A good serving sequence from wing spiker Ricardo Lucarelli put Brazil back in the match, (18-17) but Poland clung on to their narrow lead, taking the set 28-26.
Thanks to a good serving sequence from wing spiker Maurício Silva, Brazil went to the first technical timeout two points ahead in set three (8-6). But with an ace from wing spiker Dawid Konarski, Poland tied the set (15-15). And the Europeans took the lead, then cemented the victory, 25-21, to seal the match.
