Cutting branches at dizzying heights where no one can easily reach - arboriculturist Benno Gottwald can. He uses a handsaw to cut the 16-meter-high, 120-year-old linden tree of the Appenheim gymnastics club in Rheinhessen. He has secured himself with climbing ropes.

For Benno Gottwald, there is a lot to do in the lime tree: removing dead wood, crown maintenance, cutting branches that have grown too low over parking spaces and sidewalks. About 20 years ago, the lime tree had been cut back more severely - the arboriculturist checks the old cuttings. In fact, he finds what he is looking for and has to cut back parts of the crown. Benno Gottwald's motto when pruning: as much as necessary, as little as possible.

Two weeks after "Baumpflege Gottwald" has lent a hand, you can clearly see it in the more than 120-year-old linden tree: a successful tree care cut remains virtually invisible - this year, too, the linden tree of the Appenheim gymnastics club is in full leaf splendor.
