Tillana is a South Indian
Tillana is a South Indian form of Tarana, or the pure dance. It is the joyous fantasy of pure Nirtta, the most graceful and beautiful. The neck, shoulder and waist movements, contrast between the sculpturesque postures and rapid movements emphasizing on the dance artistry. The eye and neck movements and intricate footwork are all elements of the Tillana.
This is a glimpse of a traditional Tillana by Ponnaiah of the Tanjore Quartette in Raga Shankarabharnam and Aditala in Tishra Gati.
The dancer has had the fine privilege of learning this composition from her revered Guru Dr Sanddhya V Pureccha as delivered through the generations in the Thanjavur Bani of Bharatanatyam.
