How to Remove the Windows Hello Pin So You Can Login with Your Password

When you log into a new computer for the first time or finish a new Windows installation, you will most likely be asked to create a PIN number that you can use to login with rather than your password. You might not even realize that this PIN will be used in place of your password and that might not be what you want.

Then when you go to remove your PIN, you might find that the Remove button is greyed out, not allowing you to remove it. Fortunately, this is an easy fix and you just need to change the Hello sign in options in the Windows settings. If you are using Windows Professional Edition then you can even use the Group Policy Editor to help fix this problem. This demo shows how to do this with a Microsoft account as well as a local user account and was made with Windows 11 but the procedure works exactly the same for Windows 10.
