Welcom back to Renovating in Tuscany! Join us in this episode as we navigate the challenges and triumphs of preparing our online shop for launch while balancing the joys of family life in beautiful Tuscany. From product photo shoots to unexpected renovation hurdles, it’s been a busy few weeks.

We kicked off our preparations with a series of photo shoots, capturing the essence of our curated vintage ceramics collection and the stunning Tuscan landscapes that inspire our linens. Despite stock delays and the challenge of working with a newborn, we managed to create some beautiful imagery, often turning these shoots into family outings to enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

To facilitate our photo shoots, we transformed a section of our basement into a shooting area. This involved cleaning and repainting a wall that hadn't seen a makeover since the 1960s. The basement, blessed with fantastic original floors, is set to become a professional shooting space once we get the shop live. I’m even considering polishing the floors myself to save costs.

Our journey took us through winding roads and sleepy hilltop towns, where we marveled at incredible views and snapped some quick landscape shots. These moments, though rushed, are a testament to our commitment to bringing authentic Tuscan charm to our products.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Our plumber missed an important meeting with us and our geometra, which led to the discovery of costly mistakes on the bottom floor. This was a stark reminder of the importance of holding trades accountable. The frustration of these setbacks has been a learning experience, teaching me to be assertive and proactive in managing our renovation.

In an effort to cut costs, we’ve decided to take on more DIY projects, such as polishing the upstairs floors and painting the walls ourselves. This could save us around 10,000 euros, a significant amount that can be redirected towards other aspects of our renovation.

Taking a break from our hectic schedule, we visited the weekly market in Donoratico. The market offered a delightful array of discounted clothing, home linens, and my favorite—fresh cut flowers. We also indulged in some delicious porchetta from the popular roasted chicken truck, and picked up fresh fruits, vegetables, and other local delicacies. It was a refreshing experience that reminded us to enjoy the simple pleasures amidst our busy lives.

Every day here in Tuscany brings new challenges and beautiful moments. As we continue our renovation journey and prepare for our online shop launch, we’re grateful for the experiences that make our life here so unique.
