Painting a Pheasant and the tips and techniques I found when tackling such a complex bird. Recreating the sheen and iridescent feathers was a challenge but I learnt so much. I have learnt that the use of glazes can make such a difference and it's something I'll be applying for future iridescent subjects. Painting iridescent feathers can be tricky but as always breaking them down into layers, small areas and then values of your shadows and highlights is key. It's all in the lighting followed by the vibrant colours.
