👤 About the Speaker:
Dr. Akshat Singhal, is a contributor to India's Astronomy Olympiad program since 2019 and is part of HBCSE’s astronomy cell since 2023. He graduated with an MSc in Mathematics from IIT Kanpur, India (2014) and a PhD in gravitational wave data analysis from Gran Sasso Science Institute, Italy (2019). He is a co-author in the first detection of gravitational waves from a binary black hole as part of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration. His postdoctoral work at IIT Bombay involved in design optimisation of a proposed satellite project (Daksha), aiming to build two high-energy space telescopes for studying high energy astrophysical sources. He's also known for co-founding Asia's first student planetarium and a semi-professional observatory, showcasing his involvement to science outreach and education.
