Identify variables and their relationship in a table

In this lesson you will learn to identify the variables and their relationship given a table.

STANDARDS

CCSS.6.EE.C.9 Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation. For example, in a problem involving motion at constant speed, list and graph ordered pairs of distances and times, and write the equation 𝘥 = 65𝘵 to represent the relationship between distance and time.

TEKS.8.5.I write an equation in the form 𝑦 = 𝑚𝑥 + 𝑏 to model a linear relationship between two quantities using verbal, numerical, tabular, and graphical representations.

TEKS.6.9.C write corresponding real-world problems given one-variable, one-step equations or inequalities.

TEKS.6.6.C represent a given situation using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations in the form 𝑦 = 𝑘𝑥 or 𝑦 = 𝑥 + 𝑏.

TEKS.6.6.A identify independent and dependent quantities from tables and graphs;

IN.6.AF.10 Use variables to represent two quantities in a proportional relationship in a real-world problem; write an equation to express one quantity, the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation.

VA.CE.4.4.d create and solve single-step and multistep practical problems involving addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and single-step practical problems involving division with whole numbers.

VA.PFA.8.16.e make connections between and among representations of a linear function using verbal descriptions, tables, equations, and graphs.

VA.PFA.8.16.c determine the independent and dependent variable, given a practical situation modeled by a linear function;

VA.PFA.7.10.e make connections between and among representations of a proportional or additive relationship between two quantities using verbal descriptions, tables, equations, and graphs.

FL.MAFS.6.EE.3.9 Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable.
