In this video lesson we will learn how to identify the constant of proportionality in a table of x and y values. We will learn that any x value multiplied by the factor, known as the constant of proportionality, is equal to the corresponding y value. We will also discover that the constant of proportionality is represented by the variable x. The constant of proportionality is a ratio of y to x. We will learn that k=y/x. We will also learn that the graph of a line represents a proportional relationship IF the line passes through or begins at the origin. We will identify a point on the line, represent it as an ordered pair, and find the constant of proportionality by writing and simplifying the ratio of the y coordinate to the x coordinate. Student practice is embedded in the lesson with modeled exemplar solutions.
