Pão de Alfarroba, or Carob
Pão de Alfarroba, or Carob Bread, is a popular Portuguese and Mediterranean style of making bread which uses Carob powder as the main ingredient. Carob powder is typically used as a substitute for cocoa powder in the Mediterranean and adds a wonderfully flavor, texture and a color of chocolate to the bread. The bread smells so delicious when it comes out of the oven and for days afterwards. The bread slices can be serve with sweet (like me, with my Loquat Jam: Confiture de Nèfles - Loquat Jam) or salty toppings, both of which are a real treat.
Try this recipe.
👉🏼 INGREDIENTS:
430 g of wheat flour
70 g carob powder
25 g fresh yeast
300 ml of warm water (100ml + 200ml)
25 g unsalted butter
9 g fine salt
1 tablespoon sesame (or other types of seeds)
30 ml of milk
Baking time: approx. 35 - 35 minutes, in a preheated oven at 200 ° C
