During the mid-19th Century, Poblenou consisted mainly of textile factories. After the Industrial Revolution, the factories were phased out and the neighborhood fell into decay. With the 1992 Olympics around the corner, Poblenou began to revitalize and be rebuilt into a more modern area with access to the beach and mediterranean sea.
The Poblenou District is currently a growing hub for tech companies and innovative growth for the city. It features modern and traditional architecture. The city of Barcelona aims to focus on building up this area in order to diversify tourism throughout the city.
