This is a project I threw together one weekend out of boredom. It went better than I expected so thought I should document it.
A ram/plunge EDM (Electric Discharge Machine) made from the carcass of a broken 3D printer. The Z Axis was kept and driven by an external motor driver and Arduino. The Arduino monitors the main discharge capacitor voltage as well as the cut depth and regulates the spark duration, frequency, and voltage. The butterfly shown was cut to a depth of about 2 mm and took 8 hours of cut time. The "AR" was cut to a depth of about 8 mm and took about 38 hours of cutting.
