Tainaron Cape – Laconia | Greece [4K]

Tainaron Cape is the southernmost tip of mainland Greece and the Balkan peninsula and is located in the Prefecture of Laconia. It is the cape of the middle southern Mani peninsula of the Peloponnese between the Laconic and Messinian Gulfs. On the natural rocks of the cape is located, on a plateau, a rectangular stone building where the lighthouse of the same name is located. It was built in 1882 and began operation in 1887. The lighthouse is 16 meters high. It was destroyed during the Second World War, however it was reopened after the war. In 2008, it was completely renovated with the actions of the Aikaterinis Laskaridis Foundation. In a small and isolated cave of Tainaros, the existence of a necromancer of Poseidon or a psychopompey is mentioned both by Pausanias and by Plutarch.
