It can be difficult to scale your professional organizing business. Some jobs are too big for one person. Building a team and hiring subcontractors is the quickest way to expand your client base, take on more jobs, and increase your income.

Understanding the difference between an independent contractor (1099) and an employee (W-2) is important.
Don’t leave anything to chance; make sure you’ve taken into consideration all the critical details.
1. Review the IRS guidelines for employees vs independent contractors (IC)
2. Read, review, sign an IC agreement.
3. IC will invoice the business owner.
4. IC will own all their own tools in their toolkit.
5. IC may incur a profit / loss.
6. The biz owner can not tell an IC how to perform tasks or how to dress.
7. The IRS uses 3 categories to classify an IC: behavioral, financial, and type of relationship
8. Have a business bank account.
9. Create a branded invoice.
10. Have business insurance.
11. Have a method for accurately tracking time on the job.
12. Show up prepared to work (i.e. tools)
13. Decide what to do when working as an IC regarding referrals.
14. Decide if you’re going to accept tips.
15. Decide how to advise clients writing reviews for jobs well done.
