A Special Tribute to Michael Bloomfield (1983)

THIS SHORT DOCUMENTARY was made several years after Mike Bloomfield's death by Spencer Dryden and Marty Balin, as a video tribute to Bloomfield that premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival. It was shown by Marin Video Archives as part of the festival's "A Celebration of the the Blues" on August 7. It features interviews with Ron Butkovich, a guitarist and friend of Michael's from his Chicago days, and Nick Gravenites, one of Bloomfield's long-time musical partners. Also included are brief scenes from the October 1, 1978 Butterfield Blues Band reunion, filmed at UC Berkeley's Greek Theater, and snippets of rare non-Pennebaker footage of the Electric Flag performing "Groovin' Is Easy" from the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
