Virginia Giuffre has started legal action against Prince Andrew, saying it was "past the time for him to be held to account" for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager – something the Duke of York has always denied. Her lawyers have filed a civil suit, seeking unspecified damages at a federal court in New York, where documents claim she was "lent out for sexual purposes" by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including while she was still a minor under US law. It’s alleged that Ms Giuffre, then known as Virginia Roberts, was sexually abused while aged under 18 by the Queen's second son at Ghislaine Maxwell's home in London, at Epstein's New York mansion and at other locations including Epstein's private island in the US Virgin Islands. Ms Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges in a Manhattan federal court, where she faces trial in November, while Epstein took his own life in a federal jail in the borough in August 2019, a month after he was arrested on sex trafficking charges. Representatives for the duke have been contacted for comment.

Hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will receive their A-level results today, which have been determined by teachers after this summer’s exams were cancelled. Last year, nearly two in five – or 38.6 per cent - of UK A-level entries were awarded A or A* grades - a record high - following a U-turn over the use of an algorithm for grading, compared to just one in four in 2019. It’s been suggested that if more students gain top grades, then it’ll be more difficult for top universities to differentiate between applicants.

Tower Bridge has reopened to traffic after becoming stuck due to a technical problem. Images from The Shard skyscraper's live camera facing east showed the two sides of the crossing rejoin in the early hours of the morning. The fault meant the bridge was unable to close properly yesterday afternoon, causing major traffic problems for several hours, which was only largely resolved by around 9pm, according to Transport for London travel updates. Images from the scene, showed traffic built up on both sides of the bridge - which is owned, funded and managed by City of London Corporation.

And London should see a return to warmer weather this week with temperatures set to reach highs of 26 degrees in parts of England. A hot weather band is expected to make its way across the South and South-East following weeks of downpours, thunderstorms and flooding.
