'Wha Wadna Fecht for Cherlie', is a Scottish Jacobite song about the 1745 jacobite rising. The words to song's first documentation is not until 80 years later in 'Jacobite Relics of Scotland' by James Hogg in the early 1820s, the lyrics origin is unknown, the melody comes from an older song.

The 1745 Jacobite Rising, also known as the '45, was a rebellion led by Charles Stuart 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'. It aimed to restore the exiled Stuart monarchy to the British throne. The Jacobites won victories early, like in Prestonpans. After the utter defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 they were scattered. The aftermath saw the end of the risings and significant changes in the Scottish lands.
