'Its a mad world my masters'  is a song referring to The English Civil War and the roundhead cause in England. The Civil War took place between 1642 and 1649, beginning with the supporters of a stronger monarchy, Cavaliers, against the those who wanted the kings power restricted, Roundheads.

The Roundheads, led by Oliver Cromwell in the latter stages of war, turned to republicanism after failing to limit the power of the King. After a series of battles, the Parliamentarians emerged victorious, leading to the execution of King Charles I in 1649 and the establishment of the Commonwealth of England. The song shows the sense of twisted power that happened in the civil war, the Roundheads in 1649, were nothing of 1642. The lyrics say how the people were lied to and promised freedom, yet the Roundheads bring tyranny wherever they go.

During the Commonwealth, Cromwell assumed the role of Lord Protector, effectively becoming a military dictator.  Cromwell's rule was marked by military invasions in Ireland and Scotland, resulting in brutal suppression and widespread atrocities. The imposition of strict Puritanical laws, censorship, and the suppression of various forms of entertainment, such as the celebration of Christmas, were also aspects of the Commonwealth era's heinous acts against all opposed to the puritan government.

Recording done by the band ‘Strawhead’ I don’t own the music in any way.
