Heads don't always need a trip to the machine shop. If you are doing a simple re-ring to freshen up a decent engine, or if you're just freshening up a Junkyard LS. You might be able to get by with just lapping the valves. No, it's not as good as having the valves and seats professional reconditioned at the machine shop, but sometimes it's good enough for certain types of projects. Not every engine build has to be built to perfection. This engine is going in a swap buggy, not a Formula 1 car. The re-build kit was $97...not going to spend $500 at the machine shop for head work.
