What are the different types of garnet gemstone? Garnet is a set of closely related minerals forming a group, with gemstones in almost every color, including red garnet. In this video, learn about the three different types of red garnet gemstones: almandine garnet, pyrope garnet and rhodolite garnet. Almandine is mined all over the world and appears darker than others. Pyrope resembles a ruby. Rhodolite appears purplish red or reddish purple. High-quality rhodolite is considered the most valuable of all of the red garnets.
