STORYLINE:
Scores of men, women and children holding jugs, water bottles, and buckets crowded around trucks and water tanks in Khan Younis on Sunday to collect their share of drinking water.

The crowds around the trucks grew larger as more Palestinians displaced in Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip arrived in the area.

Displaced Palestinian Issam Al Dayah said he had to wait from sunrise to sunset for one litre of drinking water to share with 16 people.

Young children climbed on the truck to try to get water into their containers first, while others sat under the truck to collect whatever drops fell.

Alaa Abu Soud, who was recently displaced from Rafah, waited in the scorching heat to collect water for nine family members. He said there is a severe shortage of water for washing and drinking in the area.

The heat in Gaza is reaching over 32 C (89 F).
