Exciting real helicopter combat film footage. Huey UH-1D “SMOKEY” helicopter flying nap of the earth low level run. Watch as the door gunner lays down suppressing fire with his blazing M60 machine gun as the Huey smoke ship dives down to tree top level to lay down a thick white smoke screen in the hot LZ between the Viet Cong tree line bunker positions providing cover for the assaulting U.S. troops. This dangerous mission was called the "Smokey" mission in most U.S. Army Assault Helicopter Companies in the Vietnam War. The producer of this film was himself a combat Smokey chopper pilot serving with the 68th Assault Helicopter Company, call sign the Top Tigers, based out of Bien Hoa Army Airfield from 1968 to 1969. This video is dedicated to all the brave U.S. Army Pilots, incredibly brave Crew Chiefs and fearless Door Gunners who volunteered to fly the "Smokey" mission.
