This footage shows an operation over the U Minh Forest on December 16, 1970, in which a UH-1 (Huey) helicopter of C Troop, 16th Cav, 164th Aviation Group from Can Tho, was shot down by NVA forces as it was about to insert ARVN troops into an LZ in the U Minh Forest. The footage shows the pilots and crew of the downed Huey abandoning their aircraft, and carrying radios, and machine guns to the rescue ship, which quickly leaves. Shows aerials of CH-47 Chinook coming in and air lifting the downed aircraft out of the area after it had been secured down by ARVN ground troops and Cobra gun ships. The downed Huey took rounds through the engine; none of the crew was injured, however one ARVN passenger was shot in the arm and had shrapnel wounds in the abdomen. Film shot by Chris Jensen an Army photographer with the 221st Signal Company/Southeast Asia Pictorial Center and retrieved by him from the National Archives. And, the film was shot in 1970. Not Jensen. There is no sound because the combat camera used by the Army was powered by a wind-up spring; had no light meter; no autofocus and no audio. But it was rugged.
