Public opinion is increasingly aware of the urgency and of the problems induced by global changes that are taking place on our planet. A very young Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg, gave a heated speech to the United Nations, accusing politics of the global wounds that they will leave on current and future generations. Greta, may you like her or not, has her message based on scientific evidence, and we want to get inside the research.
This video is the first of a series in which individual scientific researches, published in peer-reviewd international journals, will be commented in some detail. Let's start with an article published in Climate Research where the undersigned is one of the authors, not out of vanity but because it concerns precisely climate change and the potential effect this can have on the distribution of beech (Fagus sylvatica) and on carbon in the soil of  beech forests. With the hope of being wrong all of us (including Greta) and being able to live a peaceful future, we cannot however close our eyes to the scientific evidence and to the changes taking place in the forests, seas and most of the Earth's biomes.
