Osteoporosis is defined as low
Osteoporosis is defined as low bone mineral density caused by altered bone microstructure ultimately predisposing patients to low-impact, fragility fractures. In 2004 the WHO operationally defined osteoporosis based upon the bone mineral density (BMD) assessment of the patient. Approximately 300,000 Americans break a hip every year. Many of them are seniors. Unfortunately, hip fractures can be much more detrimental for seniors than for the rest of the population.
