Lakeshore Siding Part 2 Rainscreen Cedar Shingles Board on Board

In the last video we focused on installing SmartSide lap siding, layout, window trim etc.  In this video, we'll focus on the front of the house.  Before installing SmartSide vertically as "board on board", we install a rain screen product by Benjamin Obdyke, called Slicker Classic.

To increase the drying potential of the wall, a rain screen provides a gap between the wall and the back of the siding.  In our climate zone the IRC requires a ventilated cladding.  Slicker Classic is basically an idiot proof way of providing a gap for when we install sheet goods, or in this case 12" pieces of SmartSide directly against the Zip Wall.

A portion of this house gets pre primed cedar shingles, so Slicker Classic is installed there too.  Here are two great articles explaining rain screens.
