Not only are kalonji seeds and onions seeds produced by different plants they belong to different plant families as well.

Kalonji seeds are obtained from the Nigella sativa plant while onion seeds are obtained from the Allium cepa plant.

Kalonji is a medicinal plant, very popular in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Unani-tibb, Siddha and folk medicine as well.
