In this video, I make some delicious slow cooker beef cheeks. By the time it is ready to eat you’re left with lovely tender meat and a rich gravy sauce.

If you don’t have a tremendous amount of prep time, you can skip the browning of the beef and chuck everything into the slow cooker. The dish will still cook to be delicious, and the meat will still be tender.
There are plenty of extras that you can have with these slow cooker beef cheeks. For example, it goes incredibly well over some potato mash. Even rice will be a great extra to have with it.
Traditionally beef cheeks have been quite cheap, but in recent times they have increased in cost. If you look around, you should still be able to find this fantastic cut of meat at a reasonable price. I highly recommend picking some up as it does cook to be genuinely amazing.

• 1kg (2.2 lb.) beef cheeks
• 1 cup red wine
• 2 onions sliced
• 1 Tbsp. garlic crushed
• 2 carrots roughly chopped
• 2 cups beef stock
• 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
• 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
• 2 bay leaves
• 1 tsp. thyme
• 500g (1 lb.) mushrooms, halved
To thicken
• 1/3 cup cornstarch
• ½ cup water
To add a bit more depth and flavor to the dish you can add a variety of mushrooms. For example, shiitake mushrooms will work quite nicely in this dish. Keep in mind, some mushrooms will add quite a bit of flavor.
