Western Cape police have opened
Western Cape police have opened an inquest docket following the death of former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste yesterday.
SABC News has confirmed that Jooste shot himself in his home in Hermanus. Police say Jooste succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound to the head shortly after arrival at a private hospital.
He was 63 years old.
On Wednesday, Jooste was fined R475 million by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority for misrepresenting Steinhoff's financial statements published between the year 2014 and 2017.
The FSCA says Jooste earned millions of rands in performance bonuses based on deceptive statements.
