How much protein, carbs and fat should you eat in a day?

       In this video you will learn how to calculate your daily calorie intake step by step.
       The key to maintaining a healthy weight is to keep an energy balance between the energy intake and energy requirements. Body weight is stable when it is in energy balance. An energy intake above the requirements will result in a positive energy balance leading to weight gain and a negative energy balance will result in weight loss.
       In this video we will focus on energy intake.
       All parts of our body need energy to work. Energy comes from the food we eat and it is measured in kilocalories.
       In adults, the easiest way to determine the energy intake requirements is by multiplying your ideal body weight in kilograms with the number of kilocalories the body uses, depending on your physical activity level, as explained in the video.
       Our bodies turn the food into proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. The nutrients that provide energy are the first three mentioned.
       Proteins should represent 11-13% of the daily energy intake, carbohydrates should represent 55-65% and fats should represent 20-30% of the daily energy intake. Fatty acids that result from fats are classified as saturated, known as `bad` fats and unsaturated, known as `good` fats.
       Vitamins, minerals and water do not provide any kcal, but are essential in body`s function.
       Energy balance is a useful tool in combating the obesity epidemic.
       Many times people are successful in losing weight, but they fail in maintaining it in time. This happens because losing weight is achieved through temporary changes in diet or physical activity but maintaining the new weight requires permanent changes in both diet and physical activity.
       In the second part of the video we will calculate the daily calorie intake for a 35 years-old man who is a teacher and is 1.70 meters tall and weights 75 kg. Watch the whole video to find out how!
