‘Hardness’ refers to a specific physical property of gems. Hardness is the ability of a material to resist scratching and abrasion. Often, we may hear a diamond had the “best hardness as its 10 out of 10”, or maybe that a gem has a “hardness of 8 so that’s just two hardness away from diamond” (True quotes that I’ve heard!!)… Let’s find out more about the hardness scale and why one of these above statements is not true!
