"DIY Stone Barn Restoration :
"DIY Stone Barn Restoration : Beginner Chainsaw Experience : Irish Farmhouse Renovation / Restoration" is all another step towards one day completing our Irish farmhouse, ancient stone farm buildings and homestead.
With the majority of the lime plaster on the walls being sound and solid, we are not going to be pulling it all off the walls only to have to re-plaster using the traditional materials of lime ( natural hydraulic lime) and sand. Dawn explains.
The 250 year old stone farm building restoration is moving forwards as Dawn continues her lime mortar repairs & hard work cutting stones as she repairs the damaged walls and Ben tackles the huge Ash tree root with the chainsaw which is pushing against the wall. As a beginner to the chainsaw, progress is slowed down even more due to stones within the roots which constantly blunt the chainsaw. Ben sharpens the chainsaw and tensions the chain for the first time.
Being complete beginners at DIY farmhouse renovation, really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide and now starting amateur archaeology, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.
Using only natural hydraulic lime (NHL) and sand, we are looking to restore the farmhouse and farm buildings with a sympathetic restoration rather than renovate.
