Today, I install the Printermods.com
Today, I install the Printermods.com Modular Direct Drive v1.3 (MDD v1.3) plate, along with a HeroMe Gen5 cooling system on our Creality Ender 3 Pro. I chose the HeroMe hotend mount due to its modularity and active support from the community. I will be using it to hold my Bondtech BMG extruder, and my Th3D Tough Hotend (E3D v6 clone - links below)!
This will work for the Creality Ender 3, Ender 3 Pro, Ender 5, Ender 5 Pro, and Cr-10 varients.
First, remove the stock hotend and x-gantry plate. Then, install the MDD plate in the same fashion as the stock system. Tighten the belts and ensure the eccentric nut is properly tightened. Then, install your hotend by whatever means you choose. The MDD plate supports a wide variety of options. Re-route your wiring to run along the front of the gantry, and your good to go!
Stay tuned for Part 2, where I create a custom harness to power the hotend/fans, and I also finish up the actual install! Part 3 will come shortly after that, and will include how to tune for direct drive printers and what changes need to be made in the slicer (changes to speed and retraction distance).
