It was October 11, 1980. Down two games to one in Major League Baseball’s National League Championship Series, the Philadelphia Phillies stared down elimination. Would this be the fourth time in five years that the Phillies would claim the National League East Division Championship, only to be bounced out of the playoffs in the first round? Not if Greg Luzinski and Manny Trillo had anything to say about it. This is the story of how the Phillies responded when their backs were to the wall in Houston.
