The Chinese army is the largest army in the world in terms of personnel and equipment. It consists of five separate forces. Assignments are made to Land, Sea, Air, Rocket and Strategic Support Forces.
The origins of the army date back to the Chinese Civil War and the Communist Revolution. By the laws of the People's Republic of China, the military is not allowed to interfere in politics. The army's sole theoretical duty is to defend the Chinese mainland and the Communist regime.
We discussed the equipment used and the modernization process of this equipment. We also made evaluations about China's position in international relations. The army's budget in 2022 was at the level of 295 billion dollars. This amount corresponds to 13 percent of world defense expenditures.
Chinese laws clearly establish the CCP's leadership over the Chinese armed forces. It describes the army as the nationwide military command of the People's Republic of China.
The Chinese military is obliged to abide by the CCP's principle of absolute civilian control over the military under the "party commands the gun" doctrine. In this sense, it is not a national army in the traditional type of nation-states, but a political army or the armed arm of the CCP because its allegiance is only to the party and not to the state or any constitution.
