In this video, we will derive the circular motion equations for vertical circular motion situations by considering the centripetal force. When a roller coaster car goes around the loop in a vertical circular motion, what are the forces contributing to the centripetal force? When the car is at the lowest point of the circular path, the normal reaction force acts towards the center of the circle, but the weight of the car acts away from the center. To keep it in a circular motion, the centripetal force must be equal to the normal reaction force minus object's weight. What about a ball swinging by a string in a vertical circular motion, with constant tangential speed and radius? The tension in the string will be the largest when the ball is at the bottom of the circular path. When it is at the top, the tension is less.
