Ray Charles – “Take These Chains From My Heart” LIVE Performance

Ray Charles (with The Raelettes) performs live in Brazil on September 22, 1963 - the day before his 33rd birthday. “Take These Chains From My Heart” was one of the biggest hits off of his landmark album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, Vol 2, and this rare performance in São Paulo captures the “Genius” (or “Ô-Genio” as he was fondly known in Brazil) in his prime.

Regarded by many critics as Ray Charles' best studio albums, Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music Volumes 1 & 2 have been considered by several music writers to be landmark albums in American music. The album's integration of soul and country music bent racial barriers in popular music, amid the height of the Civil Rights Movement. In the process of recording the album, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to exercise complete artistic control over his own recording career. Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music has been listed among the greatest albums of all time by numerous publications including Blender, Rolling Stone and Time.

Concord Records will be re-releasing these seminal albums on digital, CD, and vinyl on February 22, 2019, with a deluxe audiophile version featuring remastered audio coming in Spring 2019.
