But perhaps the most significant is Ray Charles’ cover, from his 1962 iconic album, Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music Vol. 2. Charles’ take on country music would forever change the genre. His version of the song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on the R&B Chart, and #5 on the UK Charts in 1963.
