In this episode, we are joined with a returning guest Fr. Dylan Schrader to discuss the Medieval and early modern debate on Mariology known as the Debitum Peccati.

Since the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception became increasingly popular, even on a magisterial level, in the Late Middle Ages, theologians were tasked to explain the way in which Mary was exempt from Original Sin on account of her Immaculate Conception, and what her connection was, if any, with Adam’s headship. Today we are joined with Fr. Schrader to discuss both the debitum peccati in the Medieval context, and the position of the later Carmelite theologians, the Salmanticenses, on the question of the debitum.
