In the video above, the instructor is conducting a multiple stimulus without replacement (MSWO) preference assessment with edible items. MSWOs allow you to determine a child’s preference hierarchy from a select group of items. Sometimes (but not always), a child’s highest-preferred items can be used to reinforce his or her appropriate behaviors. MSWOs are most appropriate for children who will consistently scan a large array of items and make a consistent choice based on relative preference. Typically, preference assessments with toys and with edibles are conducted separately.
