What is the secret behind the footwork of top players to have such an amazing speed on court? In this video I will take a closer look at three of the greatest men singles players of all times and give you my opinion on what makes them and their footwork so special.

-- Summary ------------------------------------------------------------------

In this video i will go in detail on:

0:00 Intro
0:42 Lee Chong Wei
3:52 Kento Momota
6:19 The incredible anticipation skills of 2 times olympic champion Lin Dan
11:06 Outro

Here you find videos from all three players with nice camera angles so you can have a closer look at the things i talk about in the video:

Kento Momota: Video
Lin Dan: Lin Dan 2014 - right handed nice low ...

You will see, that all 3 players are very good at anticipating and they all have a good rhythm and timing.

If you watch older videos you will most likely see, that players hit more often during a jump compared to recent matches. In my eyes a general improvement in defensive skills is the reason. Players have to be more patient and think more about following up quickly and playing longer ralleys at a higher pace. For me Kento Momota is the perfect example for that change of style.

-- Additional tipps ------------------------------------------------------------------

Also in the front court landing and hitting at the same time can be a very useful rule of thumb. For a long time I thought I should put down my foot as early as possible to have more control in my shots. The problem: at the same time i learned to push out of the corner as fast as possible and the result was bad control in my shots as i was moving out of the corner and tried to hit at the same time. As soon as i managed to hit and land at the same time, the quality and lenght of my shots improved instantly. Only under pressure it makes sense, to put the foot down early, to get back in balance.
