This is my instructional keyboard cover of Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time", which I am publishing under the "fair use" doctrine. This cover is meant to show how the song might be played in a live setting. It features a simple MIDI sequence containing only drums and functions as a framework which I use to play along with. Bass, guitar, and vocal tracks are not included, since this video is meant to demonstrate the logistics of playing this keyboard part in a live environment with a band.

All sounds are being produced by the Roland Fantom X7 (silver keyboard on the bottom).

I start out the video by playing the guitar riff using a piano patch. This is just to give a reference as to what's going on within the first several measures (obviously, I wouldn't play the guitar riff on keyboard during a live performance ;-) ). An organ patch is assigned to the extreme left side of the Fantom X7 and I use it to play the organ chords during the verses. The extreme right side of the keyboard has a staccato synth patch assigned to it, which is used along with an automated arpeggio that's been programmed into the X7. The arpeggio can be re-triggered, when necessary, by lifting my hand off the keyboard and pressing they keys, again. The down side to using an automated arpeggio is that it might not exactly match the tempo of the band. Again, I can correct this a bit by re-triggering, if needed.

The bridge in the middle of the song adds a synth pad (which is zoned to the left-middle of the keyboard), and also a portamento synth (which is zoned to the right-middle).

The song isn't difficult to play for properly-trained keyboard players. Unfortunately, I am not a properly-trained keyboard player, so it requires a bit of practice for me...LOL
