Cold as Ice (Instructional keyboard cover)

This is my instructional keyboard cover of Foreigner's "Cold as Ice", which I am publishing under the "fair use" doctrine. This cover is meant to show how the song might be played in a live setting. It features a simple MIDI sequence containing only drums and functions as a framework which I use to play along with. Bass, guitar, and vocal tracks are not included, since this video is meant to demonstrate the logistics of playing this keyboard part in a live environment with a band.

All sounds are being produced by the Roland Fantom X7 (silver keyboard on the bottom). The Studiologic Numa Compact 2X (black keyboard on the top) in functioning as a MIDI controller and is being used to "play" certain sounds on the Fantom X7. The Numa Compact 2X is not producing any sounds on this video.

"Cold as Ice" is probably my second favorite Foreigner song. The song is a challenge to play live since, not only is there a very prominent piano riff (which forms the musical basis for the song), but there is also a less prominent, but very cool, synthesizer part. In my opinion, playing the song without the synth part would be way less interesting.

The obvious problem is that I don't have three hands (that is, two for the piano and one for the synth). So, for the sake of completeness, I play the synth part with my left hand and leave the lower register to the bass player in the band. In a live setting, the left hand piano part is not essential and it is not missed.

The bridge was a major challenge, early on. Again, I have only two hands, so I programmed the chords for the strings into my Keith McMillen 12-Step MIDI controller (which, again, I use to "play" the Roland Fantom X7 with my feet). Each chord is assigned to one note on the 12-Step, so I just go up one step for each chord.

By the way, the syncopated organ part in the beginning of the song is played by our bass player, using his very own Keith McMillen 12-Step MIDI controller (his device controls my Fantom X7, as well). If I were really good, I could have done it myself, but there are limits to my coordination...LOL

I've been playing this song for maybe a month or so, as well, and I'm hoping to play it with my band in 2022. :-)
