Hungary:  A MAV Class 431 electric loco (no. 431 289) departs from Kelenfold on train IR19726, the 1730 from Budapest Deli to Balatonfured.  Recorded 5 September 2023.

Kelenföld (German: Krenfeld) is a neighborhood in Budapest, Hungary. It belongs to Újbuda, and located in the southern part of Buda. The large Kelenföld housing estate was built between 1967 and 1983 from pre-fabricated concrete blocks. The older streets around Bocskai út were mainly built in the first half of the 20th century. The Kelenföld railway station is an important transport hub of Buda, especially since 2014, when it gained convenient access to the city center thanks to the newly opened Metro Line M4. Kelenföld Power Station, the largest electrical generation plant in the world after its construction in 1912, is now a tourist attraction and has received coverage in the English-speaking world in recent years thanks in part to its Art Deco control room.

Hungarian State Railways (Hungarian: Magyar Államvasutak, MÁV) is the Hungarian national railway company, with divisions "MÁV START Zrt." (passenger services), and "Utasellátó" (onboard catering).
Rail transport in Hungary is mainly owned by the national rail company MÁV, with a significant portion of the network owned and operated by GySEV.
The railway network consists of 7,893 km, its gauge is 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge and 3,060 km are electrified.
Hungary is a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC). The UIC country code for Hungary is 55.

The MÁV Class V43 is a Hungarian electric locomotive with a box-like appearance. It was meant to replace the MÁV Class V40 and MÁV Class V60, as well as the widespread Class 424 steam locomotives. A total of 379 locomotives were built between 1963 and 1982.

The first seven prototype members of the class were ordered in 1960 by the Hungarian administration.   After those 7 first units built in Essen, the subsequent 372 ones were built under licence in Hungary by Ganz-MÁVAG (mechanical parts) and Ganz Villamossági Mũvek (electrical parts) in Budapest.

The class design is based on the successful French Railways (SNCF) B’B’ 1.5 kV DC BB 9400 class then in the process of delivery, with which it shared the general structure, particularly the main frames and the single-engine bogies deriving from the famous “Jacquemin drive” ones.

The V43 is the still the main workhorse for electric traction in Hungary. Its early generation semiconductor technology is now considered obsolete, but the type has good efficiency for both freight and passenger traction.
